But also cannabis sativa is the plant most often grown for drug use, while cannabis ruderalis is a superior plant in nearly every other way. It’s hardier, easier to cultivate, autoflowering, resistent to diseases and insects, is lower in THC and higher in CBD.

C. indica is also higher in CBD, lower in THC than c. sativa, but is still mostly grown for drug purposes. MUCH less likely to cause anxiety though, since CBD basically balances out the anxiety-causing effects of THC.

and tbh it would probably be quite easy to breed a strain of cannabis especially for non-drug harvesting. cross breeding various strains of cannabis isn’t difficult, and has in fact been done quite well by people wanting a high THC plant that was hard to kill.

Tl;dr, it is astonishingly stupid that this plant is not currently cultivated in some variety or another, since the most farmable strain is also very low in THC and we could probably make a variety with no THC.

Fun fact: way back when the USA criminalised the cannabis plant it wasn’t because of the drug use – although that was a convenient reason to tote out – but in large part due to the powerful timber lobby that existed at the time, for whom hemp farmers were a threatening rival.

Much like oil tycoons kept the electric car on the back burner for decades.
